Natural Fiber Lounge Pants❣️

Plus, ways to support wildfire relief with thoughtful fashion donations 🗞️

Hi Shortie,

My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the fires in Los Angeles. Fortunately, I’m far from the active fire zones, but the threat remains very real. Just yesterday, another red flag warning—signaling extreme fire risk—went into effect. This season has been so relentless that I’ve lost track of how many warnings we’ve faced.

Although I live on the edge of a rural town, my household didn’t prepare for a worst-case scenario until the Sunday before the fires broke out. Our next-door neighbor, well-versed in wildfire safety, encouraged us to plan for evacuation, citing the forecasted dangerous conditions.

I can’t imagine having only minutes to escape. Even with the luxury of time to prepare, it took us a few days to sort through our belongings and pack what mattered most. The process was daunting, but it was also enlightening—and, strangely, empowering.

When I was a child, my home caught fire. Its concrete structure prevented us from losing everything, but many of our belongings, including precious family memorabilia, were destroyed. That experience was deeply traumatic, but I know it doesn’t compare to the devastation of returning to a home reduced to rubble.

Deciding what to pack was overwhelming at first. While clothing is technically replaceable, as a fashion enthusiast, you’ll understand that vintage finds and perfectly tailored pieces are irreplaceable treasures.

Through this experience, I discovered that if time allowed, I’d save most of my coats, skirts, shoes, and handbags—but surprisingly, almost none of my tops or pants. I’m working on streamlining and simplifying the process because this isn’t a one-time occurrence. Fires can move faster than we imagine, leaving little to no time to react.

If you’re able, I encourage you to support those affected by the fires. While cash is king, as stylish Shorties, we can also help in a way close to our hearts. Here are a few organizations still accepting clothing donations (many others are currently overwhelmed):

  • Seconds Market: Matches donations based on size, gender, and age and coordinates drop-offs or shipping directly.

  • Suay It Forward: A fully circular textile recycling program that repurposes textile waste into remade apparel and home goods. SUAY also offers free shopping and styling services via text with front-door delivery to those impacted.

  • Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery: A free boutique with complimentary styling services. Currently, they are only accepting new items via in-person drop-off or mail.

Sincerely short,

Lwany

NATURAL FIBER LOUNGEWEAR

Petite-Friendly Pants

In the fire evacuation guides my neighbor shared, I learned something surprising: you should wear garments made exclusively of cotton or wool in these situations. While I have plenty of natural fiber tops and outerwear, I was shocked to realize I don’t own a single pair of 100% cotton or wool pants.

In the spirit of being evacuation-ready, I set out to find loungewear pants with shorter inseams that would meet these safety guidelines.
