Low-Rise on Low-Statures❣️
How to wear low-rise styles without looking shorter! 🗞️
Hi Shortie!
How’re you faring in the hot weather? I’m determined to get caught up with the Runway the Shortway™ programming this weekend once and for all so that I can go to the beach next Saturday (for my birthday!).
By the way, what do you think of Runway the Shortway™ so far? If you find it valuable, then all the hours I’m putting into it are worth it! If you missed it, don't worry—I've got a recap below for you.
In this newsletter, I'm answering a question from a fellow shorty with a long torso and short legs about wearing low-waisted styles.
Plus, I'm doing a roundup of petite fashion articles from PureWow– no other publication can match their short-girl-style output. Other online magazines need to take notes!
Sincerely short,
Lwany

P.S. Email me your shopping or styling questions. I’d love to help❣️

SHORT QUESTION
Low-Rise Styles
Dear Lwany,
Do you have any tips on long-torsos and short-legged people wearing low-waisted jeans/shorts/skirts?
I like the look, but unfortunately, I feel like only high-waisted stuff elongates my legs.
Love your newsletters!
Britni
Hi Britni,
If you’d like to wear low-waisted styles as a long-torso Shortie without compromising on the appearance of height, a few things come to mind:
Opt for full-length styles like petite-sized maxi skirts or straight-sized midi skirts. I wouldn’t recommend Bermuda shorts, as they don’t suit low frames. If you disagree, please email me a Shortie outfit photo because I need to see it to believe it.
For shorter-hemmed garments like minis, shorts, or skorts, avoid bright or high-contrast colors and try to choose colors close to your skin tone, like tan, khaki, or brown.
Be on the lookout for elongating features like vertical stripes, pleats, slits, asymmetrical hems, or even sheer materials!
I wish I had an explanation, but for this one, you’ll just have to trust me and see it for yourself. Lighter-weight fabrics flatter short statures in a way that heavier-weight fabrics like denim and canvas could never. There’s something about the way the material flows freely!
Elevate your stature, literally, consider wearing heels or platforms. Alternatively, try minimal nude-colored sandals to give your legs a seamless look and make them appear longer.
I'd be interested to hear if any of these suggestions work for you, as I've found success with flared jeans and pointy-toe heels.
