Characteristics that make them easy to style 🗞️

Hi Shortie!

How’re you? It’s nice to be back in your inbox so soon after the last issue!

I'm still playing catch-up with content, so let's get right into the good stuff. Continue reading to learn what makes footwear flattering for shorter statures, specifically Western-inspired boots.

I’m also sharing what I consider the petite-perfect pair and a few more accessible options. I have a feeling you'll be happy with what I found!

SHORT QUESTION

Flattering Footwear

Dear Lwany,

I always struggle to find shoes that flatter my 5’2” / 159 cm frame, especially boots. I love your black ones and would love to see more options.

Outfit with western-inspired tall boots

I’m eyeing these boots from Anthro, but honestly, I don’t even know how I would style them:

Anyway, I'm so excited for your content to be live!

Hi Sarita,

Shoes can make or break an outfit. They are quite literally the foundation of every look. When getting dressed, I first think about what’s on the agenda that day and choose footwear accordingly.

I have found that the following shoe characteristics make them easy to style:

  • Low-profile sneakers (Vans, Converse, Adidas Sambas, etc.)

  • Minimal design and straps

  • No ankle straps

As for boots, I will live and die by the Ariel boot, Aeyde's version of a cowboy boot. It is probably one of the best splurges I made.

Black western-inspired boots

Leather Cowboy Boots

I can count on those boots to elevate any outfit, and I attribute this to these key features:

  • The length of the shaft is proportionate to my overall frame

  • It isn't overly ornate like a traditional cowboy boot (i.e., no contrasting topstitching), so it pairs well with the rest of my wardrobe, which contains no other Western-inspired styles

  • The black color is a strong grounding element

The boot from Anthro that caught your curiosity is pretty slick. However, the shaft falls pretty high on what I assume is a taller model. I wouldn't recommend it because I hesitate that it would overwhelm your short stature.

The latest iteration of Aeyde's Ariel boot has the traditional scallop/dip (the v-shape at the top of the shaft), making it even more flattering than the ones I own. I know this because my mom owns a pair, and I got to try them on.

Like you, she'd been tempted to get a pair but opted to watch them for well over a year, hoping the price would drop. To her misfortune, the price increased. To her fortune, the new design is a bit more elongating.

I totally understand how inaccessible the price point of those boots is, especially given the current economic climate. I sure wouldn't be able to buy them right now.

Not too many newsletters ago, I embarked on the search for similar styles, and admittedly, what I featured didn't hit the same. But I'm thrilled to share a few options that, as you can see, are pretty close to Aeyde's Ariel boot.
